TODAY IN HIS WORD COMES FROM
(Isa 7:4 NIV)
Say to him, 'Be careful, keep calm and don't be afraid.
Do not lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood--
because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah
THOUGHT TO PONDER:
A lifeguard will tell a person drowning, "If you don't quit struggling, I can't help you." It is the same way with us and God, it is as if He leans down and says, "If you struggle against me, you only make it more difficult for yourself, and I can't help you."
TODAY’S INSIGHT INTO HIS WORD:
In today's word from Isa. 7, we read about the king of Judah, Ahaz. When he learned that the armies of Aram and Israel had come together to fight against him, he must have been "beside himself." So, God sent Isaiah to give encouragement to him. Basically, Isaiah told Ahaz, "Don't worry, these forces against you are mere men, and are weak men at that. They will not succeed in what they plan to do." (Paraphrased from verses 3-9)
Ahaz must not have taken to heart Isaiah's words of encouragement. He must have still been struggling with his fear, because Isaiah told him at the end of verse 9, "If you do not stand strong in your faith, you will not stand strong at all."
My friend, when Ahaz heard that two larger armies had come together to try to take his land-- the land of Judah-- he panicked. But God was aware of what was happening. And even more-- God knew all about the two kings that had band together. God knew who they were, and even more-- what they were, and the Lord was very clear in His message to Ahaz, "It doesn't matter what it looks like, they will not succeed!" In the NCV the verses read like this: "But I, the Lord God, say, " 'Their plan will not succeed; it will not happen, because Aram is led by the city of Damascus, and Damascus is led by its weak king, Rezin. Within sixty-five years Israel will no longer be a nation. Israel is led by the city of Samaria, and Samaria is led by its weak king, the son of Remaliah. If your faith is not strong, you will not have strength enough to last.' "
My friend, if it seems like "many" have come against you from all directions, know that the almighty Lord God knows who your enemies are. Don't make the situation harder on yourself while going through your battles. Trust God to be with you. Keep calm. If you don't, then you make it harder on yourself and more difficult for God to help you.
When a person is drowning and a lifeguard comes to rescue them, if they struggle against the very one sent to help them, then the lifeguard can not. As hard (and as scary) as it may seem, the drowning victim HAS GOT to calm down. For one, if they are fighting against the lifeguard, they can't hear what is being said in their rescue.
It is the same way for us. If we don't calm down and TRUST God, then we make it more difficult for ourselves and we can't hear what God is trying to tell us that will help in our situation. My friend, know that God is a BIG GOD. He is more than enough for whatever you are going through, just don't make the mistake of fighting AGAINST HIM when He is trying to help you out of something. Don't struggle against HIM when He is trying to liberate you from something.
My friend, change is scary-- even being released from something can be scary, because it's different then what we are used to. Sometimes we want to be freed from something so bad, but at the same time it's hard to accept, it is familiar and it's all that we have known, so it's hard to let go. Even when we know that what God is trying to do is going to be so much better. In our fear, we panic. We want to be released, but at the same time, we are fearful of what's going to happen, so we fear the worse. But God is a good God. His plan is so much better. The turmoil at the moment may be awful, but know there is an end to it, and on the other side of it, is what God has waiting for you. My friend, He could be trying to create in you a whole new life, or, He may just be trying to give you something new to enhance what you already have.
My friend, don't think that the adversary you are facing is more powerful than God and can "take everything away, that you would have nothing left." God is stronger than that. God is better than that. Trust God with whatever you are going through. Trust that God has an even better plan for you, and stand strong in faith. God will take care of His own, don't struggle against Him and delay all that God has for you. Stand strong in faith, trust that God will work this out in HIS BEST way. Look to Him the one who is more than able and NOT at the mere circumstances challenging you. He will see you through, and in the end, these things fighting against you will be gone, and nothing more than a memory as you walk into all God has for you.
PRAYING IN FAITH:
Father God, we come before You this morning, and praise You because You are so much stronger than anything we face. Lord, thank You that You are with us and know what challenges and threatens us. Lord, thank You, because no matter what, You are the ALL Powerful God, and we know that You are with us. Lord, I pray for this reader who is following along with me today. Lord, please help them to remain calm in the face of their storms. Help them to stand in faith. Help them to hear Your voice above all the noise that their difficulties may be raising up.
In Christ Jesus Name,
~ My friend, have a wonderful and victorious day!
