TODAY IN HIS WORD COMES FROM
(Jer. 39:10 ESV)
Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard,
left in the land of Judah some of the poor people who owned nothing,
and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.
THOUGHT TO PONDER:
God can do so much with so little, in the same way that Jesus fed multitudes with just a few pieces of fish and some bread; God can multiply even our simplest offerings and jesters of kindness to others into something so much more. Do not despise or look down on small beginnings. Know that all God looks for is a willing heart.
TODAY’S INSIGHT INTO HIS WORD:
My friend, Imagine these people in our key verse today; God’s Word says they were of the poorest of the land. When they woke up-- they had nothing, the enemy thought so little of them, that they were not even perceived as a threat! But when they went to bed that night, it was as owners of fields and vineyards. In a time of mass destruction, mayhem and murder, these few people were not forgotten, nor had they been overlooked, and they were blessed. How is that for God remembering His promise? Without the enemy knowing it, they were actually helping to keep the fulfillment of God’s promise to David. God did not allow Judah to be completely destroyed. God made sure that a remnant survived. There were a few put aside so that the tribe of Judah would not be totally wiped out. It is a reminder of how quickly God can change our circumstances. This is also a reminder that it does not take “many”. God can start with just a few. God can start with just YOU.
Are you by chance a remnant in your family? Or is maybe your family a small few that God has set aside to show His glory? Take heart in His Word; "The smallest family will grow to a thousand. The least important of you will become a powerful nation. I am the Lord, and when it is time, I will make these things happen quickly." (Isa 60:22 NCV)
A lesson to learn from God's Word leading up to today's verse is that He sent a warning to King Zedekiah. (See Jer. 38:20-23) But Zedekaih wouldn't listen, and because he didn't everything was taken away from him, and handed over to others. This lesson reminds me of Daniel's message: "Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning" (Dan 2:20-21 NIV).
My friend, don't think that because you may have humble beginnings that you have been over looked by God. Remember, it isn't always the rich and famous the God uses to show His glory through, or uses to reach others to grow His kingdom. At some point in time, the proud do fall. God does not put up with our sin of Pride. He will not allow the glory that is rightful His to go to someone-- or something-- else (see Isa 42:8).
Let me encourage you today; don't ever hold back from being (or giving) an offering to God. Never let yourself believe that "you are the least of your people" My friend, know that you are blessed!
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Matt 5:3-10 (NIV)
Today as you go out, yield to God as He works in your life, don’t discount the small beginning you have been given, instead be thankful that you have been given a “beginning.” Keep in memory that just as God's Word says that the His people would be happy to see the Lord's work though Zerubbabel begin, so will His people be happy to His work begin in you.
"The people should not think that small beginnings are unimportant.
They will be happy when they see Zerubbabel with tools, building the Temple."
(Zech. 4:10 NCV)
PRAYING IN FAITH:
Father God, thank You for Your Words given to us today. Lord, thank You for teaching us and showing us wisdom that we can take with us today. Help us to be thankful for the small beginning You bless us with. Lord, help us also not to perceive ourselves as being insignificant, or below others as some might have us to believe. Lord, even if we do not have an abundant in “worldly goods” we are still wealthy, because we have You. Help us to remember that everything we have comes from You and we cannot take it with us when we leave this earth. Lord, we pray that You will help us to worship You and not our possessions.
Lord I lift this reader up to You today. I ask You to help them to see who they are in YOUR eyes. Lord, I pray that they will come to know who YOU say they are, and not let others determine their value or worth. Lord, I know that they are blessed in Your name, and I pray that they will come to see that too.
In Christ Jesus Name,
~ My friend, have a mighty and glorious day!
