TODAY IN HIS WORD COMES FROM
(Matt 13:44-46 NIV)
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field.
When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went
and sold all he had and bought that field.
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
When he found one of great value,
he went away and sold everything he had and bought it."
THOUGHT TO PONDER:
Sometimes the Lord will give us a glimpse into what He would have for us. He will show us just a small portion as if to say, "If you would follow me, this is your purpose, this is what I created you to be." The next step is up to us, will we lay everything down, will we go off and prepare for what God would give to us? My friend, what would your choice be?
TODAY’S INSIGHT INTO HIS WORD:
In First Kings 19, the Lord told Elijah to go and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat. Elisha was to go into training under Elijah so that at some point he (Elisha) could become a prophet in Elijah's stead. Elisha was chosen to become Elijah's helper who would one day wear Elijah's coat.
So Elijah obeyed God and went and found Elisha, and anointed him. Read with me First Kings, 19:19-21 So Elijah left that place and found Elisha son of Shaphat plowing a field with a team of oxen. He owned twelve teams of oxen and was plowing with the twelfth team. Elijah came up to Elisha, took off his coat, and put it on Elisha. Then Elisha left his oxen and ran to follow Elijah. "Let me kiss my father and my mother good-bye," Elisha said. "Then I will go with you." Elijah answered, "Go back. It does not matter to me." So Elisha went back and took his pair of oxen and killed them. He used their wooden yoke for a fire. Then he cooked the meat and gave it to the people. After they ate it, Elisha left and followed Elijah and became his helper (NVC).
My friend, what I would like to point out to you is what Elisha did. He saw the treasure in God's purposes for him, and went and laid EVERYTHING DOWN, and prepare to follow wholeheartedly. When Elisha asked for time to go say goodbye before setting out, Elijah said it didn't matter to him. You see, Elijah had done what he was told to do. He obeyed God, the next step was solely up to Elisha.
Not only did Elisha say goodbye-- in his joy, he gave everything away, he laid everything down-- he traded everything for the treasure he had found. Notice he did not leave anything. He didn't keep anything for "just in case it doesn't work." He didn't leave himself a backup plan incase what God had in store for him didn't work out. Elisha stepped out of the field that day and gave his whole being in total commitment to what he had found, and what the Lord had revealed to him. And in doing so, he stepped into God's plan and purpose for him. That day that Elisha stepped into history.
Peter Simon, his brother Andrew, and his two friends ,James and John, did the same thing. When they realized who Jesus was, they found a treasure in Him, and when Jesus said "Follow me," these four men traded in everything.
And as He was going along by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men." And they immediately left the nets and followed Him. And going on a little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets. And immediately He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went away to follow Him (Mark 1:16-20 NASB).
My friend, sometimes you really cannot have it both ways. Sometimes in order to have the very best God would have for you (and the treasures He has in store for you), and to be all that He has called you to be... you have to give some things up. Sometimes, in order to step into your destiny that God has ordained for you from the very beginning, you have to go and lay down all that hinders you. The question is are you willing. If Jesus calls to you like He did Simon Peter, Andrew, James, and John, and says to you, "Follow me, this is what I would have for you." Are you willing?
Can you like Elisha, leave no "back up plan?" Do you look at the Lord and say, "Oh sure, I can go try it, and if it doesn't work out, I can always..."
My friend, have you found a hidden treasure? Have you seen a glimpse into what God has called you to do, and created you to be? Have you heard Him whisper to you and show you what your purpose is? Have you stood up and looked over the field that God has laid out in front of you in an offering, if you would just follow Him? In your joy, have you gone off and "sold everything" to prepare to have what He is giving you? Are you ready to receive?
My friend, God has good plans in store for you. All His ways are right, He just waits for us to make a choice. Have you taken that first step? If not, what are you waiting for? Who or what has God revealed to you? What has God shown you that He wants for you? My friend, do you know what you were created for? What treasures are you storing up in heaven for?
PRAYING IN FAITH:
Father God, what a glorious day You have given us. Thank You that You have so much for us. We praise You, because we can rest in confidence in knowing that Your plans are good for us. Thank You that You lead us and guide. Lord, we praise You for being almighty, for being faithful, and because YOUR WORD IS TRUE. Thank You that you really do have so much for us.
Father, I stand before you with this reader that is with me today. Lord, I pray that you will open their eyes so that they may see the riches in Christ before them. Lord, I pray that You will open their ears to hear Your voice and to see the way that YOU would lead them. Lord, may they have the courage to take their step of faith today. I also ask Lord, that if they are confused with what it is that You would have them to do, that You would show them very clearly, so that they will know what is You.
In Christ Jesus Name,
~ My friend, have a wonderful and blessed day.
