TODAY IN HIS WORD COMES FROM
(Job: 37:5-7 NIV)
"God's voice thunders in marvelous ways;
he does great things beyond our understanding.
He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,'
and to the rain shower, 'Be a mighty downpour.'
So that all men He has made may know his work,
he stops every man from his labor.
THOUGHT TO PONDER
In Job 37:1-13, Elihu was describing an incredible thunderstorm, and he was telling Job (and the other friends) that God was in and behind the storm. Elihu said in vs 5, "God thunders with His voice wondrously doing great things which we cannot comprehend." My friend, the next time you are in the midst of a storm, or come to a thundering halt, stop and look for the hand of God.
TODAY'S INSIGHT INTO HIS WORD
Has God ever brought you to a thundering halt? In the NASB it says, "He seals the hand of every man, that all men may know His work." When studying this verse, the Greek translation for "seal" means to close up. I like how the NCV words Job 37:7 "With it, He stops everyone from working so everyone knows it is the work of God." Did you happen to catch what God did? He stopped everyone from working...
Sometimes we can be so sure of the will of God and what He has shown us, that we pick the ball up and RUN with it. Only to be stopped dead center later! When this happens it is easy to get discouraged, or to even fall into disbelief wondering if we had been wrong, thinking to ourselves, "Maybe it wasn't God, maybe it was just a pipe dream." If we aren't careful the enemy can start beating us down with, "Maybe you just misunderstood, and besides did God REALLY say..." It can be easy to fall into the trap of wondering did we really even hear from God?
When this happens, where do YOU go? My friend, don't give up, instead-- go back to GOD. Ask Him, spend time in prayer and be honest, "Lord, I don't understand." Go back to the LAST thing (or place) where you KNOW you heard God clearly from (or about). Go back to that place and call upon Him. That is what Abraham did after making the mistake of going into Egypt. Abraham went back to where he knew God had spoken to him. In a recent study I came across something-- look at what Abraham did when he got derailed in Egypt: And he journeyed on from the Negeb as far as Bethel to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, to the place where he had made an altar at the first. And there Abram called upon the name of the Lord (Gen 13:3-4 ESV).
Did you notice that Abraham went back to where he had been at the beginning? My friend, it doesn't have to be an actual "place," just back to where you know you were on solid ground and that you had been given direction-- basically "go back and remember what God has said."
Yesterday I had to do this. I couldn't go to my tree where I like to pray, so I went to the next best spot. Now I know that God is everywhere, and that He lives inside of me, but it helps ME to be able to go to a place that is "special" because for me it is like going "to meet with God." By doing this I get away from all the distractions, and simply talk and fellowship with God. Now the reason I personally will go to my tree (or the spot at the river), is because of something that happened a few years ago and I know that God "talked to me" there-- so this place has become "my special meeting place with God." Do I hear from God everytime I go there? No, but it clears my mind and prepares my heart to listen for when He does.
Anyway, yesterday I went to the lake at the park close to my house, as I couldn't go all the way out to my tree. And I took with me a notebook that I have used in collecting verses and thoughts that God has given me. I also took what I call my GMP (God's master plan) for Cypress Ministries that He laid on my heart years ago. AND I took my journal where I have written my "God encounters" in. I opened them all up and spread them out in the front seat of the car, and then prayed. You see, I brought the last things I KNOW I heard and felt God impress upon me, and held them up to Him, and said, "Lord, I KNOW this is what You said.... so why, how, and where do I go from here?"
Also keep in mind that God is a God of DETAILS, and He has a certain way He wants everything done. Sometimes when we get to far ahead of Him, He will put on the brakes until He gets our attention. My friend, if we are truly doing something that God has given us to do, (if we are indeed going in the direction God has pointed us to), but fail to realize that God is missing IN FRONT of us, it is very possible that He will send in the thunderstorms that will bring us to a dead stop just so we can hear him above all the noise, and He can have our attention. In Isa. 30:21 it says, "If you go the wrong way-- to the right or to the left-- you will hear a voice behind you saying, 'This is the right way. You should go this way'" (NCV).
My friend, if you hear God's voice BEHIND you instead of in front guiding you, then it is quite possible you have gotten ahead of Him, and you need to slow down and let Him take the lead again. Take some time to get re-adjusted. Let God put you back on track and give you direction, or "re-direction."
David did this. In 2 Samuel 6, David and his men went to get the Ark of the Lord and bring it back with them. However, a man (with good intentions) stepped out to steady the Ark when it was about to fall-- and God killed him. You see, God gave David His blessings to go and retrieve the Ark, however David rushed off without asking God, "HOW." And God brought David to a DEAD stop. In 1 Chronicles 15, we read that David said, "You are the leaders of the families of Levi. You and the other Levites must give yourselves for service to the LORD. Bring up the Ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the place I have made for it. The last time we did not ask the LORD how to carry it. You Levites didn't carry it, so the LORD our God punished us" (Vs. 12-13 NCV).
My friend, God may be holding you up for the simple reason that a piece of the puzzle isn't in place just yet, and He needs time to work it out BEFORE you go on. Sometimes He stops us so that HE can move in a mighty way just so that later EVERYONE will know that it was by HIS HAND, and not our own, so that His Glory will be shown for all to see.
The next time a mighty storm comes into your life and brings all your work to a complete stop-- wait before starting up again. It could very well be that it is God who has said, "STOP." He could just want you to slow down because He wants to give you clear directions (or maybe the timing isn't quite right). It could be that He needs you to wait for someone else. OR, it well might be that you have gotten in front of Him, and missed a step that you have to go back and correct before going forward. But you won't know until you let His Voice have an opportunity to speak clearly to you, and then give His Holy Spirit a chance to step out from behind you and lead again.
Praying in Faith
Father God, we come to You today with our hands opened wide. Lord, we ask You to lead us and give us direction on how You would have us to proceed. Lord, show us how to move forward and what our part is, and what we are to wait for YOU to do. Father, we praise You as the almighty God, and we ask that YOUR will be done, not ours. Lord, I lift this reader up to you who is with me today. Lord, I ask You to open their ears to hear you, and their eyes to see you. Lord, I pray that You will keep them on the path that YOU have made for them. Lord, I ask You to direct their steps and help them to get where You would have them to be.
In Christ Jesus Name,
My friend, blessing to you and have a wonderful journey. Kassie
