Today's Daily Devotional
Let God's Word shine light on your step today
as you grow in your relationship with Christ.
This is what the Scripture says: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”
(Heb. 3:15)
Today's Devotional is from our series
Following As God Leads
Just as God led the Israelites day by day and even through the nights, so He desires to lead us. We only have to watch HIM, and follow in His steps as He directs us.

God has a certain place He wants each of us to be, and at certain times. If we will but trust Him, He will guide our foot steps each day at a time, and when we lay down He will watch over us, and even give us a cloud of fire to point the way as we week Him in the quietness at night.

Devotional: Living Among the Weeds
Dec. 1st
Christ-Like Friendship and Support

Holding hands in fellowship with Christ-like friendship as we learn how to connect the truth of God's Word with everyday life, while walking through the pages of His Word.

(Matt. 13:28-30 NIV)
"'An enemy did this,’ he replied.
"The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'"

'"No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds,
you may root up the wheat with them.
Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters:
First collect the weeds and
tie them in bundles to be burned;
then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.'"

God could have delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians far sooner than He did, but He waited, because He knew that if they had been released too soon– they would not have been strong enough to go in take all He had prepared for them. God waited until the family of Jacob grew from 70 to multitudes and became big enough to accomplish all He had for them to go in and do. In the same way, God does this for us. He will not take us out of a situation or remove certain things from us  (even people) until He is ready, and knows we are strong enough to move into the future He would have for us.

My friend, I have a friend I was visiting with the other day who has been frustrated because she knows that God has impressed upon her that she is to be healed from an illness that has kept her down for quite sometime. The reasons she is frustrated is because the healing has not come YET. But, I pointed out to her that maybe the reason she hasn’t been healed just yet, is because God is not ready for her to be working on (and going forward in) the things that she would like to be doing that she knows God has confirmed is her calling. You see, if my friend were healed, she would be long gone. But, because she has been ill, she has to take it very slow and take long periods of time to rest. If she didn’t have to do this, she would be out there and there would be no stopping her. So I asked her, is it possible God keeps her laid up in order for her not to get infront of him?

God does do that. If we are in a situation that really isn’t what He would have for us, but He hasn’t helped us get out of it yet either; it’s very well possible that, though what you are in isn’t His perfect will, He allows you to remain in it, because He isn’t ready for you to move forward. And my friend, sometimes going forward and getting in front of Him, would actually be worse than the situation we are in at the moment.

Through Samuel, the Lord told King Saul that he would be removed and basically uprooted from his position. "The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to your neighbor, who is better than you" (1 Sam 15:28 NASB). Though the Lord made it clear that Saul was the weed; God didn’t separate Saul from His people just yet because the one to take Saul’s place wasn’t ready. God could have removed Saul from his throne way earlier than He did, but it would have been worse for the people, and David was still a boy and needed training. David needed to be conditioned and prepared before he took his place. So God waited before removing Saul.

When Moses was 40 years old, he tried to help his people. The problem was God wasn’t ready for Moses to step up into place. God’s people were getting close to His timing. But it still wasn’t the right time. So Moses had to wait out in the desert another 40 years. But, those years WERE NOT wasted. He was being prepared and didn’t even know it.

My friend when God liberates you from a situation, or removes people that hinder you, or even takes you out of a relationship; if it has been YEARS, you might ask yourself, “But why now? Why not years ago when I was younger, or before…” My friend, because apparently even though it wasn’t what GOD had for you, He wasn’t ready for you to move into what HE DOES. If all the sudden you find yourself being pruned of a lot of things, and a lot of people, then know that God has said, “YOUR TIME HAS COME. IT IS TIME TO MOVE INTO THE FUTURE I HAVE ALWAYS HAD PLANNED FOR YOU”

My friend, know that sometimes we can get ourselves into a situation because it looks like something God would want for us. But, unless we  ASK God, “Is this what you want?” It may be a LONG TIME INCOMING before we realize it wasn’t. Just think, seedlings of the wheat and the weeds can look very similar at first, it isn’t until they have completely grown up that we can tell a difference. In the same way, we can be in a situation, but it isn’t until way later that we realized it’s NOT what we thought it would be.

When this happens and we turn to God, sometimes He will liberate us very quickly. But sometimes He will allow us to remain in it because ultimately we aren’t ready for what He has always planned to call us to. And in separating us (the wheat) from the weeds in ours lives too early, can cause far more damage.

My friend, know that age does not matter to God. Jesus did (and had) an amazing ministry at the age of 30, for only three and a half years. However, Caleb was 85 years old before he was allowed to go in and take possession of all God had promised him. Yet even at this age, God did amazing things through him (see Joshua 14: 6-15). Don’t write yourself off simply because YOU think you are to old. Or, think you've been in something for so long, there's no way things would (or could) change now...  It does’T matter at what age God prunes the weeds from your life and says, “Now go.” When it is finally His time, know that the years have not be wasted, He has simply bided His time until other things were set into place, and now you are strong enough and ready to step up in to ALL that He has had planned for you!

Father God, thank You for all that You do for us, and for the ways that You protect us, even when we can’T seem to understand it. Lord, thank for the times that You have even waited, knowing that by liberating us, it would actual cause more harm to us. Lord, we praise You for Your wisdom and being all-knowing. Lord, sometimes we forget that You can see so much more than we can. Lord, please forgive us for being impatient.
Father, I pray for this reader. Help them to understand what it is that YOU would remove from them. Lord, help them not to fall to the lies of the enemy and write themselves off as the weeds, not realizing all that You are just waiting to do in them. Lord, help them through any pruning seasons they are going through.
In Christ Jesus Name,

~ My friend, have a blessed day.
