Christ-Like Friendship and Support

Holding hands in fellowship with Christ-like friendship seeing how to connect the truth of God's Word with everyday life, while learning to walk together (hand and hand) through the pages of His Word.

(Isaiah 29:18 NASB)
On that day the deaf will hear words of a book,
And out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see.

In Scripture, God's Word says that when we search for Him with our whole hearts, He will let us find Him. His Word promises that when we call to Him, when we call on His name, He will answer us. At no time has He ever wished to have a distant relationship with us. When we spend time in His Word, we will hear His voice, and in time, we come face to face with God.

My friend, there is a reason the Bible was only written one time. God didn't have to keep rewriting it or make updated new editions. The reason being? We as humans tend to always go back and make the same mistakes. Take my oldest son, for example. I have always been pretty honest with him about things that I did growing up. When I would see him going the wrong way and about to make a huge mistake, I would caution him. I would give him advice and share with him what my mistakes had cost me and what I had learned. When he was younger, he would listen. But when he hit his late teens, things started changing. I asked him one day, "Why do you go out and make the same mistakes I did?" In my frustration at one point I told him, "Don't do what I did, save yourself some heartache and learn from my mistakes. If you're going to do something, do something different-- then maybe we will both learn something new."

God chose one nation and led them out of slavery basically in front of everyone. He taught them, He disciplined them, He provided for them, and He blessed them. God set them up to be an example for generations to come. The problem was they constantly strayed away from Him. They didn't stay focused on Him; they didn't listen to Him. So often they fell away, making the same mistakes time after time, (generation after generation). My friend, as sad as that is, we tend to do the same thing.  Read 1 Corinthians 10:15 For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness (NCV).

Then look at verse 6 Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. (See also verse 11) These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come.

My friend, the awesome thing about the time we live in now is that we are on this side of the cross. We do not have to take our request to a priest and stand outside as the priest goes into the temple and presents it to God. Christ came down and, in His death and resurrection, tore down the veil that separates us from God. We, ourselves, are the temple. At any given time WE can go before the almighty God. We can go directly to the source-- right to His Word. When we do, if we will spend time in it, we will hear His voice because His Holy Spirit works and speaks from inside of us. We begin to hear from the inside of His Word (as a friend speaks to another friend), the voice of God.

So often people view the Bible as only a history lesson, or they want to discount the Old Testament. My friend, all of Scripture is the infallible Word of God. Jesus came and proved that every word is true. My friend, God has not changed. His Word has not changed. The lessons He taught back then are still relevant today. I may not wear the same kind of clothes as they did back then. I go to the grocery store for my food. Thanks to the sacrifice Jesus made, I do not have to go and offer a lamb or a calf or take my prayers to someone else to be heard by God. But the lessons that God taught His people I can still apply to my life today.

When I take my youngest son to school, there is a stop light at the top of the hill I come to every time. While at this light, I can look out and see the horizon; I can see the mountain bluffs. I can look out over the park my children play at, and I can see the "big picture." However, when I take my camera and go to this same place, I can zoom in and see things in a whole new way and see things I have missed. I can see trees and the start of details. If I zoom in even more, I can see individual things, I can clearly see details, I can even see the leaves on the trees. In  the same way I have learned to read the Bible.

I have three main Bibles. One Bible I take to church services and use to read in order to look at the "whole" picture. A second Bible I use to study and go deeper in His Word and use to learn the meaning and grow in understanding. It's kind of like when I start to zoom in with my camera. I begin to see things closer up. His Word takes on new meaning, and I can begin to see similarities in the situation I am in and what God's people have done or went through. Then my third Bible is my personal Bible. It is the one I use every day. I have underlined in it. I have marked in it, and I have cried on it. It is my own "holding hands and walking with God" Bible. This third Bible is where I take my camera and zoom all the way in. And it has become personal. When I spend time with God in this Bible, it is about me and Him. In the same way I can see the leaves on the tree when I zoom all the way in, I can see the details of my life, I can see me. And do you know who I find waiting for me? I find God.

When I do, when I search for His will and what He wants for my life, it's like I have come face to face with God. One of my favorite verses is Proverbs 2:1-5 My child, listen to what I say and remember what I command you. Listen carefully to wisdom; set your mind on understanding. Cry out for wisdom, and beg for understanding. Search for it like silver, and hunt for it like hidden treasure. Then you will understand respect for the Lord, and you will find that you know God (NCV). Do I still make mistakes? YES, unfortunately I do. The difference now is that I learn from them. My friend, I hope you will too. It is my prayer for you that as you begin to grow deeper in His Word, that you, too, will begin to hear His voice in His Word and have clearer vision so that you will come to see God.

Father God, what an amazing God You are. Lord, thank You that everyday You wait for us to come to You. Thank You for Your Words You share with us. Thank You that You are always so ready to teach us. Lord, thank You that You offer so much of Yourself to us.
Father, I pray for this reader with me today. Lord, I pray they will begin to hear Your wonderful voice from the book You have left for us. Lord, I pray that they, too, will begin to take a closer look into Your Word. Lord, I pray that their walk with You will become very personal. Lord, it is truly my prayer that they will come face to face with You.
In Christ Jesus’ Name,

~ My friend, have a blessed day.
