Reflecting on God's Word: Posting Jan. 16th
The Famine of God's Word was finally broken.
And an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the altar of incense. Zacharias was troubled when he saw the angel, and fear gripped him. But the angel said to him, " Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John. You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother's womb. And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God. It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS BACK TO THE CHILDREN, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
Luke 1:11-17 (NASB)
When the angle of the Lord spoke His message to Zacharias, the silence of 400 years was broken.
God had repeated and repeated His warnings to His people, He had sent prophet after prophet to speak for Him, but they refused to listen. So God said there would come a time that He would speak no more!
Reflection: When you disobey God's Word, it will result in a spiritual famine. When we continue to turn deaf ears to God and disregard His Holy Spirit, eventual we will hear no more.
"Behold, days are coming," declares the Lord GOD,
"When I will send a famine on the land,
Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water,
But rather for hearing the words of the Lord.
"People will stagger from sea to sea
And from the north even to the east;
They will go to and fro to seek the word of the Lord,
But they will not find it.
Amos 8:11-12 (NASB)
What is a Reflection of God's Word? A moment when your Spirit quickens at His message, and the insight He gives you floods your heart with understanding.
Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah, and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. And she cried out with a loud voice and said, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
Luke 1:39-42 (NASB)
You see, Spirit talks to Spirit, and when God speaks to us, our Spirit (which is His Holy Spirit in us) "leaps" because He recognizes a message from God. So as we are reading the Bible, it is important to read slowly and with an open mind and heart, so that we can be in tune to His Spirit. We shouldn't rush through our reading time, because when we do, it is easy to run roughshod right over a Word from God.
When words light up to you, and seem to leap off the page, it is important to take some time to let it speak to you and let His Holy Spirit bring insight. As He does, it is important to write it down. Afterwards, meditate on it, work it into your mind and let it be rooted deep down. Then watch for confirmation of this reflection from God as He confirms His message to you in other ways. Let the reflection of God's heart work IN and then through you so that it will make a difference in your life, that eventually others will see.
But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
1 Cor 2:9-13 (ESV)
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
John 16:13 (ESV)
